Overview

The National Diploma in Paramedics Technology is a full-time programme that trains students to respond to medical emergencies, manage injury and trauma care, and provide pre-hospital treatment under supervision. The course equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills so they can work effectively in ambulances, accident and emergency departments, sports medicine, and disaster response settings.

Program Structure & Duration

  • The programme lasts for two years full-time (four semesters). It includes classroom lectures, laboratory practicals, clinical or fieldwork attachments, and project work. A hospital or clinical attachment is usually required (sometimes lasting up to one year) before a student can progress to higher levels, such as the HND.

Core Training Areas

  • Human anatomy and physiology relevant to emergency care.

  • Patient assessment and vital signs monitoring.

  • Trauma management (injuries, accidents) and first response procedures.

  • Emergency Medical Care Protocols Outside Hospital Settings.

  • Basic life support, including airway management, CPR, and stabilisation of patients.

  • Pharmacology relevant to emergency settings and drug administration under supervision.

  • Ethics, law, communication and teamwork in emergency healthcare provision.

Admission Requirements

  • Five (5) credits in WAEC/NECO/NABTEB, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

  • Candidates with prior training in related health programs may be considered for direct entry.

Graduates of the ND Paramedics Technology programme are prepared to work as paramedics or emergency medical support personnel in:
